Gibbston Valley Winery
cellar cave
Opened by the Governor
General in Dec 1995, the Gibbston Valley Winery cellar cave was
described as "a new era in Central Otago winemaking and New Zealand
tourism". NMA prepared the Assessment of Environmental Effects for the
cellar cave, restaurant and carparking extensions, and obtained land
use, stormwater and spoil disposal consents. Architectural design input
and documentation to various components of the project were also
undertaken.

rafting centre, Queenstown
A tourist masterplan and
concept architectural design for the proposed new rafting and outdoor
recreation centre, associated motel-style accommodation facilities
overlooking the Kawarua River, Gibbston, near Queenstown
Tourism and resource management planning
Information and research
for Tourism's guide to the Resource Management Act, published by the NZ
Tourism Board to assist operators, investors and developers in the
tourism sector with information and procedures under the New Zealand
Resource Management Act.

Future development
strategy for New Zealand's premier tourist destination. Included
growth management assessments, calculations for future town centre
expansion. A vision in three dimensions to guide long term development
and commercial zonings, and a provisional staged strategy for
implementation including on-going involvement of the community in civic
projects (public/private partnerships and other initiatives),
streetworks, heritage protection and urban design guidelines.

Concept design for a
50-bed boutique lodge among glacial landscapes, with spectacular views
to Coronet Peak. Land use approvals, environmental management plans for
lodge and heritage woolshed gallery.

Bar, Wellington
Neil Penney (in former
practice) was involved in the design of the Arizona 'themed' bar and
restaurant on Featherston Street, Wellington. The 200-seat bar
incorporated a 'bigger than Texas' theme with extensive use of timber
and adorned with American memorabilia. Completed in 1992 for $1.5M

Parkroyal Hotel (Intercontinental),
Wellington
Neil Penney was the Project Architect and later design Director (Peddle
Thorp Architects) for the 3155m2 central Wellington
five-star Parkroyal Hotel (now Intercontinental) providing 230 hotel
suites, restaurants, pool and function rooms. Neil was the nominated
finalist for the NZ Interior Design Awards in 1991.
